IOF Worldwide Conference of Osteoporosis Patient SocietiesAthens, Greece, September 11-13,2015. The IOF Worldwide Conference of Osteoporosis Patient Societies (IOF WWC) took place at the President Hotel in the Greek metropolis, Athens. The IOF WWC is held every two years and it is an important forum for the development of the global osteoporosis patient movement. The Osteology Academy Zlín as a full member of IOF sent two representatives from the Patient Society, these were Mgr. Hana Atcheson and Mrs. Iva Nováková. The program of the lectures and seminars was very rich. The main focus was on passing experience from different patient societies, sharing osteoporosis patients’ stories, and stressing the importance of physical exercises. New findings from the field of osteoporosis treatment and its impact on patients were also discussed. The important slogan “Love Your Bones” was present in many lectures. All the participants
appreciated exercise time during the lecture breaks. Under the guidance of
trainers, the conference participants were able to learn new exercises which
can be helpful during a long working day in an office. The seminar held by
Rebekah Rotstein who arrived from New York was very successful. We liked her
practicality in giving instructions on how to strengthen our bones and keep
proper balance throughout our common daily activities while showing all the
exercises in practice right in the seminar room. All we needed was an office
chair and resistance bands. During the conference
time all the lecturers were very inviting and open to personal conversations. We were pleased to come to a conclusion that our Zlin medical treatment practice is comparable with osteoporosis patient care around the World. The importance is found in proper physical exercise alongside with good quality medical treatment. In Zlin it is possible to attend exercises with PhDr. Zdeňka Krhutová, Ph.D. who commutes from Ostrava to share her expertise with us in a gym every week. |
